One developer,
one World Cup
deadline.
Sockergo is a product with a date that will not move. Everything had to be built around that: the live match feed, the group logic, the subscriptions, the legal framing, the marketing. All of it by one person, in the months before the tournament starts.
The interesting engineering is not the predictions, it is the data. Matches sync every five minutes from a live football API, which means the ranking has to be correct while a game is still being played, and the whole thing has to hold up when a group of forty people all open the app at half time.
The other half of the work is not code at all. Positioning the product firmly as entertainment (no money, no prizes) shaped the database, the copy and the terms of service alike. There is a list of words the product never uses, and it is enforced everywhere: in the app, in the marketing and in the legal documents.
